Hari Gadis Internasional
Nama saya Temanku Lima Benua.
International Girls Day
My name is Temanku Lima Benua (My friends are from five continents-Eng). This name was given in the hope that I would have many friends from many continents. I am the only daughter of Hariyadi Purnama and Hidayati and live in Geritan, Belangwetan, Klaten Utara, Central Java Indonesia. Since childhood, I lived with Sibu, the favorite nickname for grandmothers. When I was 4 years old, I started to enjoy drawing on the rice wrapping paper that my grandmother sold. Entering elementary school, I started to draw anything on the ground in front of the house. Drawing directly on the soil is very fun, if you erase it with your feet. After the drawing is finished, my habit is to tell the picture to my playmates and neighbors who buy grandma's food.
When I was 10 years old, I started drawing on scrap paper with charcoal. Sometimes I draw on bamboo. Apart from drawing facial expressions, I also enjoy drawing about history and the environment. In 2013, I participated in Klaten Street Art, drawing on walls and plywood about environmental issues and exhibited at the Lindu Gedhe monument in Prambanan.
When I was 13 years old, I was invited by the Directorate of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia to exhibit at the National Cultural Week in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. I present Sketches about Traditional Games and about the ancient history of the Singosari kingdom. My first solo exhibition entitled "Detik-detik Proklamas'', I made in Ratna Bantala Heroes Cemetery and "I see Indonesia" at the Pendopo Pemda Klaten. The exhibition featured images of the heroes and Indonesia Founding Father. I financed the exhibition from personal money that I saved for 7 years and luckily a group of women in the village helped to fund the exhibition as well. After the two first exhibitions, I started drawing on a huge canvas with watercolors that I got from the shop for free or with a discount. To buy those materials, I sang at the Carfreeday event. I also conducted experiments to make charcoal from various woods.
When I turned 16, I was appointed as Executive Director of the Klaten Biennale, an art exhibition. I am the youngest director. I am active in exhibitions, in Indonesia and Asia. In 2018 I was awarded as a History Literate Millennial. This year I just held the second Klaten Biennale, which focused on waste issues due to the large amount of waste in Klaten and Indonesia. This is my concern. I continue to encourage the young generation to pay attention and make action. I also did a collaboration with Kampung Halaman Foundation to support the awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights for girls.
